For family planning

The first step in planning a pregnancy and a family.

The ENVISION carrier screening test provides the most reliable and detailed information about the health of your future family

What is the ENVISION
carrier screening test?

Envision carrier screening reveals whether you and your partner carry altered genes that you could pass on to your child.

If a child inherits the altered gene from both parents, serious genetic disorders can develop, such as cystic fibrosis, spinal muscular atrophy and severe blood disorders.

Most people carry hidden changes in their genes without knowing it.

These changes do not affect your health, but your child is at increased risk of developing the disease.

Because of the way these disorders are inherited, it is impossible to predict which parents will have an affected child, or in which pregnancy.

Autosomal recessive and X-linked recessive diseases can only be prevented by determining carrier status, that is, with a carrier screening test.

RISKS WE DON’T SEE

of children with a genetic disorder are born to parents with no family history or symptoms of the disorder.

1 in 4 people carries a gene for at least one disease.*

* Clinical study by Lazarin et al. (2011)

Autosomal recessive inheritance

Autosomal recessive inheritance means a person must inherit the altered gene from both parents to develop the disease.

X-linked recessive inheritance

X-linked recessive inheritance means that the gene is located on the X chromosome.

Female carriers usually have no symptoms because they have a working copy of the gene on their other X chromosome.

Since men have only one X chromosome, inheriting the mutated gene means they will be affected by the disease

Your baby’s health is in your genes.

When you plan your future with your partner, it’s wonderful to have a lot in common.
However, when it comes to your genes, differences are welcome and good.

Who is the ENVISION
carrier screening test for?

Couples planning a family

Couples in early pregnancy

If you haven’t had the Envision carrier screening test yet, you can do it now — the results apply to this and every future pregnancy.

Couples going through IVF and/or who have had an unsuccessful IVF attempt

When going through this process, both complex and beautiful, it’s important to do everything you can to minimize the risk of failure.

People with a family history of genetic disease

If there is a genetic disease in your family, you need to check whether — and to what extent — your child is at risk of inheriting it.

Certain ethnic groups at increased risk of genetic disease

Some population groups have a proven higher frequency of genetic diseases; members of these groups are advised to take the Envision carrier screening test as an essential part of family planning.

Anyone who wants to know whether they carry altered genes that could lead to disease in their children

All pregnant women, as early in pregnancy as possible, and all women planning a pregnancy should have carrier screening.

What does the ENVISION carrier screening test
analyze and what technology does it use?

How did we choose
the diseases we analyze?

All diseases recommended by the American College of Medical Genetics (ACMG) and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG)

Diseases with a severe clinical course

Diseases that significantly impair patients' quality of life

Diseases that develop in the first years of life

Diseases for which surgical or drug treatment is available

Thanks to state-of-the-art DNA analysis technology with over 99% accuracy, future parents can have the most comprehensive testing and get a clear, precise picture of their child’s health.

The genes are analyzed by full-gene sequencing, with mandatory analysis of deletions and duplications in regions of interest +/- 10 base pairs.

Both methods are performed using Next generation sequencing.

What steps does your blood sample go through during analysis?

Results and next steps

Possible ENVISION test results:

- No changes detected in the tested genes

+ Changes detected in the tested genes

What are the next steps?

If you and your partner are both carriers of an altered gene, our geneticists will advise you on the exact risk of your baby having the disease and on the next steps, which may include:

● Diagnostic tests in pregnancy – amniocentesis or chorionic villus sampling
● Alternative methods of conception
● PGT – M
